WITH DESIGN IN MIND RETAINS THE FINANCIAL RELATIONS BOARD
CHATSWORTH, Calif., March 11 /PRNewswire/ -- With Design In Mind International Inc. (NASDAQ: WDIM) today announced that it has retained The Financial Relations Board Inc., the country's largest investor relations consulting firm, to implement an expanded investor communications program in 1992.
With Design In Mind specializes in unusual products that often incorporate novel scientific phenomena. Its retail products are distributed through independent sales representative firms and sold by catalog companies such as Sharper Image, department stores such as Macy's, specialty retailers such as Spencer Gifts and discounters such as Price Club.
Recently the company has expanded into products with commercial applications with the introduction of MicroTheatre Display Units and into the entertainment market with the sale of patented video system optics to Sega Enterprises Inc. for use in the popular video arcade game "Hologram Time Traveler."
Incorporating three-dimensional optical and interactive technologies, MicroTheatre Display Units exhibit and advertise businesses' products and services via three-dimensional images in "thin air," complete with movement and sound. The arcade game was developed by a company in which With Design In Mind is a 50 percent joint venture partner.
For the fiscal year ended Sept. 30, 1991, the company reported net sales of $6,800,000, compared with $6,100,000 in fiscal 1990. In fiscal 1991, a net loss of $427,000, or $0.19 a share, was recorded, vs. a net loss of $544,000, or $0.54 a share, in fiscal 1990. Average shares outstanding totaled 2,221,000 in 1991 and 999,000 in 1990.
For the first quarter ended Dec. 31, 1991, With Design In Mind showed a net loss of $260,000, or $0.07 a share, on net sales of $2,024,000, vs. net income of $37,000, or $0.04 per share, on net sales of $1,030,000 in the 1990 quarter.
Steve Zuloff, chairman of the board, said, "For the past two years, the company's growth and profitability have been hampered by a severe shortage of working capital. In 1991 we completed a private placement of common stock that netted approximately $800,000, and a successful public offering of 1,725,000 units, each unit comprising one share of common stock and one warrant to purchase common stock. Net proceeds of the public offering were approximately $7,172,000."
As of Dec. 31, 1991, the company had cash and cash equivalents of approximately $6,100,000, working capital of approximately $7,600,000, approximately $2,000,000 available under a bank line of credit and a current ratio of 10-to-1.
"As a result of our financing activities in 1991, With Design In Mind now has ample capital to increase our shipments of products to customers and to accelerate the rate of new product introductions to approximately four per year," Zuloff said. "We expect the results of our increased activity to significantly affect our financial results beginning the third quarter of our fiscal year.
"We believe it is time to raise the company's profile. Through the Financial Relations Board we will be communicating with an expanding group of potential investors nationwide," he said.
The Financial Relations Board is the nation's largest investor relations consulting resource. The agency's staff of 100-plus is composed primarily of former investment professionals and financial journalists. FRB operates offices in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
