FEMALE CONDOM APPLICATION SUBMITTED TO FDA
JACKSON, Wis., Nov. 4 -- John A. Wundrock, R.Ph., president and CEO of Wisconsin Pharmacal Company, Inc. (NASDAQ: WPCI), announced that the Pre-Market Approval (PMA) Application for the Reality vaginal pouch (female condom) was submitted to the Food and Drug Administration on Oct. 29, 1991.
Reality is a patented barrier device (female condom) designed to help prevent sexually transmitted disease, including AIDS, and unwanted pregnancy. Unlike male condoms, its use is controlled by the female. Reality has been under development for about four years.
Studies have shown that the AIDS virus and viral particles smaller than the Hepatitis B virus (the smallest virus known to cause a sexually transmitted disease) cannot penetrate the Reality sheath. Clinical trials have included approximately 1,700 women and 30,000 uses in 71 medical centers in 10 countries.
Wisconsin Pharmacal develops and markets innovative health care, leisure time and household products.
