WINTER BASEBALL GETS HOT!
PROVIDENCE, R.I., Aug. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Since the Dominican Republic is the undisputed home of winter baseball, it is only fitting that the Major League and the Players Federation of the Dominican Republic are finally recognized with their own officially licensed trading card series. Lime Rock International has announced that it is producing for October distribution, "Winter Baseball," the only trading card set featuring some of the best players in the game today. This card series will include the ORIGINAL ROOKIE cards of 37 players just entering the world of professional baseball (cards considered to be the "original rookie card" are generally valued at 10-100 times that of cards later produced by the same player). Over 70 of the other players featured in this card series play both U.S. major league ball in the summer and Dominican Republic major league ball in the winter. For these players, Winter League cards will offer an excitingly different perspective. "This kind of world wide recognition is long overdue the Dominican Republic for the ongoing contribution made to professional baseball everywhere," said Lime Rock President George Latimer. Lime Rock International is the only company allowed to produce these cards. They are producing 3,500 Winter League (9 card foil pack) cases for North America most of which are reserved for existing customers. Lime Rock's Winter Baseball is being produced in English with a very special version using Spanish language packaging for distribution in Latin American countries only. For collectors hoping to get the original rookie card of the next Ozzie Virgil, Felipe Alou, or Juan Marichial, Lime Rock's Winter League is the only chance they have. With a league that produces the likes of Matty Alou, Manny Mota, Cesar Cedeno, Damaso Garcia, George Bell, Alfredo Griffin and Alejandro Pena lasting collector interest is assured. The premier edition, 165 card super high gloss U.V. finished set is destined to become one of the most important trading card releases in 1993.
