WINSLOW CAPITAL MANAGEMENT FORMED; TO FOCUS ON GROWTH EQUITIES
MINNEAPOLIS, June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Three veteran money managers -- Clark J. Winslow, Gordon H. Ritz Jr. and Richard E. Pyle -- today announced the creation of an investment management firm, Winslow Capital Management, Inc. Headquartered in Minneapolis, the new firm will manage growth equity portfolios for corporations, foundations, endowments and non-profit organizations. The firm will focus on a small number of large accounts with a minimum account size of $20 million.
"We've found through our years of experience that superior performance is most often achieved by small, dedicated teams of skilled money management professionals," said Clark Winslow, president of Winslow Capital Management, Inc. "Each of us has chosen to leave a large financial institution to be more responsive to both market conditions and our clients' needs. With technology advances of the past few years, information availability for investment decision-making is no longer a function of size. Furthermore, Winslow Capital will do much of its own research to take advantage of the principals' analytical skills."
The three principals of Winslow Capital Management have over 60 years of investment experience. For the past five years Winslow served as a senior vice president in the Minneapolis office of Alliance Capital Management, headquartered in New York and listed on the New York Stock Exchange. At Alliance, he managed $1.2 billion in growth equity accounts, primarily for 20 large institutional clients. During the five-year period ended March 31, 1992, his accounts that were measured independently by SEI and Indata Services averaged 14.6 percent growth per year, 4.2 percent more than the annual total return of 10.4 percent for the Standard & Poor's Composite Index of 500 Stocks. This performance placed him in the top 7 percent of U.S. equity managers. A native of Minneapolis, he is a graduate of Yale University and holds an MBA from Harvard Business School.
Gordon H. Ritz Jr. was formerly a manager of equity portfolios in Minneapolis for Stein, Roe & Farnham, based in Chicago. Ritz has more than 13 years of experience in the investment business with Piper Jaffray, Inc., Kidder, Peabody & Co. and for the past seven years with Stein, Roe & Farnham. There he managed $150 million and achieved one of the best records for growth stock investing. Ritz is a graduate of the University of Puget Sound and did additional undergraduate work at Harvard University.
The third partner is Richard E. Pyle, previously managing director and senior analyst of consumer growth stocks for Piper Jaffray. Pyle has more than 22 years of investment experience with Norwest Bank, IDS Financial Services and Piper Jaffray, Inc. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst and presently serves as second vice president and program chairman of the Twin Cities Society of Security Analysts. Pyle graduated from Macalester College and pursued graduate studies in business and economics at Moorhead State University and the
University of Minnesota. Winslow Capital Management's office is located in the

IDS Tower in downtown Minneapolis.
