WINPROBE 4 INTRODUCED BY QUARTERDECK: TROUBLESHOOTING TOOLBOX FOR WINDOWS 95 AND WINDOWS 3.X

Uncovers Secrets to Faster Windows Operation

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Sept. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Quarterdeck Corporation (Nasdaq: QDEK) today announced the shipping of WINProbe(TM) 4, a cross-platform troubleshooting toolbox with diagnostic and optimization features to help users get the most out of their Windows 95 and Windows 3.1 systems. In addition to WINProbe 4, Quarterdeck also announced the shipping of two additional cross-platform utilities: CleanSweep 95 and MagnaRAM 2.

"We wanted to deliver a complete Windows and Windows 95 troubleshooting utility to optimize, diagnose, troubleshoot and clean-up any Windows system," said Alexander Eckelberry, Quarterdeck senior director and general manager, Utilities Business Unit, "WINProbe 4 is essentially a suite of utilities."

WINProbe 4 diagnoses the source of hardware and configuration problems through over 200 individual tests so users can find the reason for hardware problems. A real-time Status Panel provides monitoring of critical Windows functions. A click of a "thumb tack" button creates a floating status panel and hides the rest of the program.

Additionally, WINProbe 4 features on-the-fly optimization of Windows 3.1 and Windows 95 memory and system resources. A Tune-Up option provides hundreds of general tips on optimally configuring the system to obtain peak performance.

WINProbe 4 will also include over $100 of free software: CleanSweep 1.0, an uninstaller for Windows 3.1x; CD Certify Pro, the CD Troubleshooter Toolbox; a 16-bit Ini Editor for Windows 3.1; Quarterdeck RegIni, a 32-bit Ini and registry editor for Windows 95; and Quarterdeck Mosaic, the fastest and easiest way to gain access to the World Wide Web.

System requirements include an Intel-based PC running Windows 3.1, Windows for Workgroups or Windows 95; and 2 megabytes of available hard disk space.

The expected street price of WINProbe 4 will be $49.95.(1) Registered users of WINProbe 3.0 are entitled to an upgrade at a cost of $19.95 plus shipping and handling.

Customers may order WINProbe 4 by calling 1-800-683-6696. Further information is available by contacting Quarterdeck's World Wide Web site (http://www.quarterdeck.com/).

"We wanted to fill the product with value," added Jeffrey Hyman, WINProbe product manager for the Utilities Business Unit. "That's why we included five free software programs, including the world's first 32-bit Ini and Registry editor and a complete uninstaller for Windows 3.1x."
