WINNER'S CIRCLE 2 KIDS WIN FOR ESSAY, POSTER.

SANTA CLARITA - The Santa Clarita Human Relations Forum held its annual Essay and Poster Contest Award Recognition Ceremony on Feb. 23, honoring 31 student winners from local elementary, junior high and high schools.

Brittany Weistling of Sulphur Springs Elementary School took third place in the first- through third-grade category of the Essay Contest sponsored by the city's Human Relations Forum.

Jonathan Chiusano of Placerita Junior High School took first place in the seventh- and eighth-grade category of the Essay Contest sponsored by the forum.

The winning posters, which were on display, and the winning essays, compiled in a booklet, depicted ways in which students can help others in their school and community get along better and improve unity and understanding among diverse groups of people.

Mayor Bob Kellar presented awards to the 31 students in four age categories. More than 350 entries were received.

Each first-place winner received $100; second place, $75; third place, $50; and fourth place, $25. Each child who entered will receive a McDonald's gift certificate.

SANTA CLARITA - Winners of the city of Santa Clarita's Human Relations Forum announced the winners of its annual Essay and Poster Contest in a recognition ceremony held Feb. 23.

Essay contest winners: (Listed in order from first to fourth place.)

First- through third-grade category: Jonuh Branam, Fair Oaks Ranch Elementary; Madeline Abene, Live Oak Elementary; Brittany Weistling, Sulphur Springs Elementary; Paul Franklin Smith, Leona Cox Community School.

Fourth- through sixth-grade category: Jennifer Fernandez, Rio Vista Elementary; Sarah Andrews, Stevenson Ranch Elementary; Brittany Chu, Stevenson Ranch Elementary; Pilar Penaranda, Newhall Elementary.

Seventh- and eighth-grade category: Jonathan Chiusano, Placerita Junior High; Joanne Wu, Placerita Junior High; Harrison Shotzbanger, Arroyo Seco Junior High; Lane Rosen, Placerita Junior High.

Ninth- through 12th-grade category: Jennifer Le, Saugus High; Tyler Johnstone, Saugus High; Katelyn Booth, Saugus High; Josh Wei, Hart High.

Poster contest winners: (Listed in order from first to fourth place.)

First- through third-grade category: Jonathan Condon, Old Orchard Elementary; Justin Jordan, Helmers Elementary; Kaley Yagade, Mountainview Elementary; Juan Cespedes, Newhall Elementary.

Fourth- through sixth-grade category: Rhodel Manzano, Emblem Elementary; Carly Wilson, Newhall Elementary; Jason Wei, Stevenson Ranch Elementary; Edgar Gomez, Newhall Elementary.

Seventh- and eighth-grade category: Andrew Bang, Rio Norte Junior High; Kara Hill, Arroyo Seco Junior High; Meghan Gunnin, Arroyo Seco Junior High; Parisse Villalobos, Arroyo Seco Junior High.

Ninth- through 12th-grade category: Larrissa Perkins, Canyon High; Kristine Kang, Hart High; Samantha Aguinaldo, Saugus High; no fourth entry.
