WINNEBAGO INDUSTRIES REPORTS NET INCOME UP 106 PERCENT

FOREST CITY, Iowa, June 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Winnebago Industries, Inc. (NYSE: WGO), today reported a 106 percent increase in net income for the third quarter ended May 29, 1993. Net income for the third quarter of fiscal 1993 was $4,579,000, or 18 cents per share, compared to $2,220,000, or 9 cents per share, for the same period one year ago.
Revenues for the third quarter of fiscal 1993 totaled $115,915,000, a 30 percent increase over revenues of $88,883,000 for the same quarter last year.
For the first nine months of fiscal 1993, net income was $6,103,000, or 24 cents per share, versus a net loss, before cumulative effect of change in accounting principle, of $5,112,000, or 20 cents per share, for the same period one year ago. Revenues totaled $276,793,000, an increase of 32 percent versus revenues of $209,045,000 for the same period in fiscal 1992.
Revenues from the sale of the company's motor homes sold under the Winnebago, Itasca, Elante and Vectra brand names increased 35 percent in the third quarter of fiscal 1993 versus the same period last year. "These results demonstrate the continued growth in the motor home market for the company's full line of motor home products, seven of which were recognized by CONSUMERS DIGEST Magazine as a `Best Buy'," said Winnebago Industries President and Chief Operating Officer Fred Dohrmann. "The introduction and excellent reception by retail customers and dealers of the popular new bus-styled Vectra line, and the new low-cost Winnebago Warrior and Itasca Passage motor homes also contributed to the increased revenues in fiscal 1993.
"We also attribute our success to the continued recognition by dealers and retail customers of the high quality standards achieved through our `Team Winnebago' employee efforts within the corporation," Dohrmann continued. "I would like to recognize our many fine employees who have done a tremendous job of cost containment and warranty cost reduction, while continuing to improve productivity and quality. Our motor home market share continues to increase, demonstrating the growing respect for the company's motor home products in the marketplace and the quality of their construction."
Dohrmann concluded, "We are very optimistic about further motor home market share growth for the remainder of fiscal 1993, our 35th year in the recreation vehicle (RV) industry, and well into the future. Winnebago Industries continues to be a leader in motor home design development and is currently beginning the introduction of new 1994 products."
