 WINN-DIXIE CO-FOUNDER M. AUSTIN DAVIS DIES
 JACKSONVILLE, Fla., Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- M. Austin Davis, 81,


one of the four Davis brothers who founded Winn-Dixie Stores, Inc., (NYSE: WIN) died Monday, Jan. 20 in Tampa, Fla.
 Born in Arkansas in 1911, Austin and his three brothers, A.D., J.E. and Tine W., helped as their father, William M. Davis, opened the Company's first store in Miami, FL in 1925, to lay the foundation for the more than 1,200 supermarkets Winn-Dixie operates today.
 His early vision of larger stores resulted in the opening of Winn-Dixie's first "big" store (30,000 square feet) in Clearwater, Fla. in the early 1950s.
 At the time of his retirement in 1970, Mr. Davis was serving as senior vice president and regional director of the Miami and Tampa Divisions. He continued to serve on the Board of Directors until 1982.
 M. Austin Davis is survived by his brothers, A.D. and J.E.; wife Alice Freedlund; daughters Carole Crocker, Kay O'Rourke and Sandra Stephens; 9 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
 The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the Curry & Son Funeral Home, 605 McDill Ave. S., in Tampa, FL.
 Friends will also be received on Thursday, Jan. 23 at 2 p.m. at the Van Orsdel Funeral Chapel, 4600 SW 8th St., Coral Gables, Fla. The chapel service will follow at 3 p.m., with interment to take place at Woodlawn Park North.
