WINLAND ELECTRONICS SECURES PURCHASE ORDERS EXCEEDING $1,000,000

MANKATO, Minn., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Winland Electronics, Inc. announced today that it has received purchase orders with a total value in excess of $1,000,000 from CIC Systems, Inc. All products are scheduled for shipment during the first and second quarters of 1994. The purchase orders will fulfill sales orders placed with CIC Systems by an international electric utility company for approximately $800,000. Also, CIC issued Winland additional purchase orders for products shipments to domestic customers during January and February 1994.
CIC Systems is a Nashville, Tenn.-based company that develops and markets the Powerstat system that allows utility companies and their customers to better understand -- and manage -- electric power consumption. One feature of the system allows customers to pre-pay electric service, and saves electric utility companies the cost of billing, collection, and bad debt expense. Another customer-oriented feature analyzes the effect of discretionary use of electricity such as with air conditioning or major appliances. The Powerstat has consistently allowed customers to realize 10-15 percent reduction of electric power consumption.
During the past several years, Winland has provided a variety of manufacturing and manufacturing engineering services for CIC Systems. For over three years, Winland has been the exclusive manufacturer of all Powerstat units for CIC Systems.
 W. Kirk Hankins, Winland's president and chairman, stated, "CIC's products and technology can play an increasingly significant role in efficient energy management, worldwide." He added, "Obviously, we're very pleased with the size of this manufacturing order. Equally important, it is a strong sign of increasing acceptance and future demand for CIC's products."
In addition, the company announced that it has successfully negotiated with American Bank to expand its credit facility and reduce the bank interest rate.
Winland Electronics, Inc. designs, manufactures, and markets electronic and electro-mechanical products and assemblies and serves as a principle original equipment manufacturer. Winland's common stock is listed in the Pink Sheets and trades on the Minneapolis/St. Paul over- the-counter market.
