WINE COUNTRY VERDICT

SANTA ROSA, Calif., July 6 /PRNewswire/ -- The following was released today by Broad, Schulz, Larson & Wineberg:
After a two-month Superior Court trial, a wine country jury today gave a $7,329,133 verdict in favor of Glen Ellen Winery against Bronco Wine Co. of Ceres, Calif. Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Elaine Watters announced the verdict which gave Glen Ellen $4,956,209 for bottled wines sold to Bronco, $1,482,238 for the replacement value of wines Bronco wrongfully refused to deliver to Glen Ellen, and $890,686 of the verdict was for a custom processed wine deposit that Bronco wrongfully refused to deliver.
Bronco counter-sued for $9 million termination damages, but was only awarded $2,563,000 for the reasonable value of services rendered.
Glen Ellen was represented by the San Francisco firm of Broad, Schulz, Larson & Wineberg; Attorneys were Ronald Larson, Robert Cross and Tomio Narita with legal assistants Sheila Higgins and Stephanie Milani. Larson specializes in wine industry matters and Cross, lead counsel in the trial, is a member of the firm's Food/Beverage practice group.
Two years ago, Glen Ellen terminated Bronco's distribution division and appointed Southern Wines & Spirits to act as the exclusive statewide distributor of Glen Ellen and Benziger wines. Bronco retaliated by withholding money and bulk wine due to Glen Ellen for the two years of the dispute.
Glen Ellen, a general partnership of the Benziger family and certain key managers, produces premium varietal wines and the Benziger of Glen Ellen super-premium wines.
Bronco, a very large generic and bulk wine producer in the Central Valley, is owned by Fred, Joe and John Franzia. It recently bought up the Grand Cru, Hacienda and Domaine Laurier brands, all in Sonoma County.
