WILSON WYATT JR. TO HEAD TRAVELERS PUBLIC RELATIONS OPERATION
HARTFORD, Conn., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Wilson Wyatt Jr. has been named to head the public relations operation at The Travelers Corporation (NYSE: TIC), Edward H. Budd, chairman and chief executive officer, announced today.
Wyatt, 48, who currently is senior vice president for corporate and public affairs at PNC Financial Corporation in Pittsburgh, will succeed Senior Vice President F. Peter Libassi, 63, as head of corporate communications upon Libassi's planned retirement in 1993. Wyatt will join the company later this month.
"Effective communication to our many constituencies is essential in this period of rapid social and economic change affecting our company and industry," Budd said. "Wilson Wyatt is an experienced executive who brings to us extensive skill in the areas of public relations, communications, government affairs and advertising."
Libassi, who has been at The Travelers since 1982, will continue to head the Corporate Communications Department during the transition period and will continue to be associated with The Travelers after his retirement as a consultant on national and local affairs.
In his new position, Wyatt initially will be responsible for financial communications, media relations, product publicity and employee communications. Upon Libassi's retirement, Wyatt also will be responsible for government affairs, advertising, marketing services and community relations.
At PNC Financial -- a $45 billion bank holding company with 17,000 employees -- Wyatt is responsible for all facets of the corporation's public affairs program including government affairs, internal and external communications and shareholder relations.
Prior to joining PNC, he was vice president for corporate affairs and government relations at BATUS, Inc., and director for corporate affairs at the Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corporation. A former Kentucky state legislator, he attended the University of the South. He is married and has five children.
Travelers, with 33,500 employees, is one of the world's largest multiline financial services companies, focusing on insurance, managed health care and investments.
