WILLIS CORROON GROUP plc ANNOUNCES APPOINTMENT OF NON-EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

 NASHVILLE, Tenn., Nov. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Willis Corroon Group plc (NYSE: WCG) has announced the appointment of William A. Schreyer to its board of directors as a non-executive director.
 Schreyer, 65, retired this year as chairman and chief executive officer of Merrill Lynch & Co., Inc.
 Roger J. Elliott, executive chairman of the Willis Corroon Group, and Richard M. Miller, chief executive, said: "It is a great honor and privilege to welcome Bill Schreyer to our board. The coming years will be most exciting in the development of the global scope and profitability of the Willis Corroon Group; Bill brings to our board a wealth of knowledge and experience, particularly of global economic forces, and great distinction in his professional business career. We are proud that he has joined us."
 The appointment takes effect on Nov. 18.
 At the same time, the board announced the retirement, effective Dec. 31, of Arthur I. Vorys, who has been a non-executive director since October 1990 and was before that a non-executive director of Corroon & Black Corporation for five years.
 Elliott and Miller, in a joint comment, said: "Art Vorys has assisted the boards of Corroon & Black and of Willis Corroon Group with his wisdom and experience and with unstinting generosity of time. We are most grateful for all his work over eight years with us and our colleagues, and wish him well in his well-deserved retirement."
 Schreyer joined Merrill Lynch in 1948 as a management trainee. Through the years, he held many positions in the company, finally being appointed president and chief executive officer in 1984 and chairman and chief executive officer in 1985. Under his leadership, Merrill Lynch achieved its most successful results.
 He is a director of Schering-Plough Corporation and served as vice chairman of the New York Stock Exchange. He was a leader of a delegation of NYSE representatives to the Commonwealth of Independent States and the People's Republic of China.
 Schreyer's professional, civic and international affiliations include the Center for Strategic and International Studies, the Council of Foreign Relations, the Enterprise Foundation and the New York State Regents Commission.
 He is president of the board of trustees of the Pennsylvania State University, and maintains active affiliations with the United Way, Daytop Village drug rehabilitation program, and the Archdiocese of New York. He serves by Papal appointment as a special financial advisor to the Holy See in Rome.
