 WILLIAM P. LAWSON APPOINTED AMETEK'S DIRECTOR-PLANNING
PAOLI, Pa., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- William P. Lawson, 43, has been appointed to the newly created position of director-planning for Ametek (NYSE: AME), according to executive vice president Allan Kornfeld, chief financial officer of the Fortune 500 industrial manufacturer.
Lawson currently is director of business systems at Ametek's U.S. Gauge division headquartered in Sellersville (Bucks County), Pa., a leading manufacturer of aircraft, automotive and general purpose instruments. As director-planning for Ametek, Lawson will be responsible for all planning activities, including strategic planning, long-range planning, financial planning and budgeting, Kornfeld said, with an emphasis on market and competitive analysis. In his new position, which becomes effective Sept. 1, he will also retain responsibility for a systems implementation at U.S. Gauge, Kornfeld added, but will move to the company's corporate offices at Paoli.
Previous to joining Ametek U.S. Gauge early last year, Lawson held management positions with Tektronix, Inc., of Beaverton, Ore., for more than 10 years, most recently serving as corporate program manager. Prior to Tektronix, he worked for the Nevada Industrial Commission and, earlier, for NCR Corporation.
Lawson and his wife, Jennifer, and their two daughters live in North Wales, Pa., about midway between Ametek's U.S. Gauge headquarters and its Paoli corporate offices.
Ametek, listed on the New York Stock Exchange since 1930, has 6,400 employees worldwide and sales of $715 million in 1991. The company just reported record first quarter sales of $196.7 million and earnings of $11.3 million, up 31 percent over the previous year's results.
