WILLIAM LYON COMPANIES REPORT $33.6 MILLION INCREASE
IN NEW HOME SALES VOLUME FOR 1991
NEWPORT BEACH, Calif., Jan. 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Despite what housing experts considered a "down" year in terms of new home sales, The William Lyon Companies reported an increase of $33.6 million in total sales volume in 1991.
The William Lyon Companies' total sales volume for 1991 was $668 million. In 1990, Lyon sold 2,410 homes and built 559 apartments for a total volume of $624.4 million.
Lyon reported 1,968 homes sold and 1,770 apartments built in Southern California during 1991. The company also builds homes in Northern California.
"Actually, we finished 1991 just about where we had projected at this time last year," said Dick Randall, company president and chief operating officer. "Like most builders, we down-sized our plans for 1991 and concentrated more on the smaller affordable home rather than the mid- to luxury-priced residence."
For the past four years, Lyon has been the Southland's No. 1 home builder, according to the annual Los Angeles Times survey of residential construction in Southern California. Lyon also has the distinction of finishing at the top of the Times' survey for an unprecedented eighth time in the past 10 years. The 1992 survey, which will recap building leaders for 1991, is expected to be published in March.
"We're projecting to build approximately 1,966 homes in 1992 with a total estimated volume of about $450 million," Randall said. "We are currently building homes in about three dozen neighborhoods, with prices ranging from the $120,000s for single-family detached homes at Amberwood in Temecula to the high $300,000s for single-family detached homes at The Manors in the Hillsborough planned community in La Mirada."
The William Lyon Companies have five Southern California operating divisions (San Diego, Foothill/South Orange County, Saddleback/South Orange County, Central Counties and Inland Empire).
During more than 36 years of residential development, Gen. William Lyon, founder of The William Lyon Companies, has directed the construction of more than 65,000 homes, housing approximately 200,000 people.
