Petaluma, California -

Advanced Fibre Communications(R), Inc. (AFC(R)) (Nasdaq: AFCI), a leader in multiservice broadband solutions for the telecommunications industry, today announced that William L. Keever, president, Americas Asia Region for Vodafone Group Plc., was elected to the Company's Board of Directors. Mr. Keever will serve as a Class I Director on AFC's Board, filling the recent vacancy that was created when Herbert M. Dwight, Jr. did not stand for re-election at AFC's Annual Stockholders Meeting last May.

Mr. Dwight, the former president, chief executive officer and chairman of Optical Coating Laboratory, Inc. (OCLI), a wholly owned Santa Rosa, Calif.-based subsidiary of JDS Uniphase Corporation, resigned from the Board, having reached the Board's retirement age of 70.

"We remain appreciative of Herb's numerous contributions to AFC over the years and wish him the best," said John Schofield, president and chief executive officer of AFC, of Mr. Dwight's departure.

The 55-year-old Keever has spent the past 36 years working for Vodafone, AirTouch and Pacific Telesis in various general management, engineering, and operations capacities.

"Bill's extensive experience with telecommunications service providers has given him a unique perspective, which AFC will draw from as the Company continues to grow and mature," Schofield said of Keever. "I am particularly looking forward to the insights he brings to AFC in the areas of service provider thinking and of the regulatory environment."

"AFC is a leader in the broadband local loop access market and is extremely well positioned for the future," said Keever. "I look forward to contributing my operating and international experience in support of AFC's continued success."

Mr. Keever received his Bachelor of Science degree from California State University, Sacramento, in 1971.
