WILLIAM GEIST TO BECOME SCIENTIFIC-ATLANTA'S VICE PRESIDENT, INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND SERVICES

 ATLANTA, July 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. (NYSE: SFA) today announced the appointment of William A. Geist as vice president, Information Technology and Services effective July 20.
 He had been vice president, Information Services for Reichhold Chemicals. He will report to Scientific-Atlanta's senior vice president and chief financial officer, Kenneth V. Jaeggi.
 Geist will be responsible for the development and maintenance of data, voice and video information strategies linking Scientific- Atlanta's operations throughout the world.
 "The effective application and management of information technology can provide significant strategic advantages to a company in this age when instantaneous and effective communications are required. Bill Geist is particularly well suited to lead our efforts in this area as we work continually to improve our competitive edge for the years ahead," Jaeggi said.
 Geist has held a number of significant information systems and management positions beginning in 1977 with Ernst & Young's Manufacturing Consulting practice. Subsequently he held positions with Tenneco Inc. and its subsidiary, Packaging Corporation of America.
 Geist has a bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and computer science from Bucknell University and an MBA in operations management and information systems from the University of Rochester. He holds several professional certifications as well in data processing (CDP), management accounting (CMA) and production and inventory management (CPIM).
