WILLIAM ACKERLEY NAMED PRESIDENT OF ACKERLEY COMMUNICATIONS

    SEATTLE, Aug. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Ackerley Communications Inc. (AMEX: AK) announced today that William N. Ackerley has been appointed to the position of president and chief operating officer of the corporation.
    According to Barry Ackerley, chairman and chief executive officer of Ackerley Communications Inc., "Bill has contributed to the corporation's success over the past several years in a number of different positions. I know that Bill will play an important leadership role in the company's future as we move forward together."
    Bill Ackerley joined the Seattle SuperSonics in 1986 as vice president/administration.  In 1988, he was promoted to vice president/sales development of Ackerley Communications Inc.  While in that position he also served as executive-in-charge of The New Seattle Arena Project.  Ackerley was promoted to senior vice president/chief operating officer of the corporation in 1991.  In that capacity he served stints as the interim general manager of KJR-AM/KLTX-FM in 1991, and most recently as president of Ackerley Communications of the Northwest, one of the corporation's outdoor advertising divisions.
    Before joining the SuperSonics, Ackerley was a senior financial analyst for American Airlines in Ft. Worth, Texas.
    Ackerley holds an MBA degree in finance and accounting from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., and is a graduate of the University of Washington.
    Ackerley Communications is a multimedia advertising business, with interests in outdoor advertising, airport displays, broadcasting and professional sports.
    The company provides display advertisements in more than 120 airport terminals throughout the United States.  Its outdoor advertising division services the metropolitan markets of Boston and Worcester, Mass; Miami, Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach, Fla.; Seattle and Tacoma, Wash.; and Portland, Ore.
    Ackerley's broadcasting properties include television stations KVOS-TV in Bellingham, Wash.; WIXT-TV in Syracuse, N.Y.; KKTV-TV in Colorado Springs, Colo.; KCBA-TV in Salinas and KGET-TV in Bakersfield, Calif.  Ackerley also owns radio stations WAXY-FM in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and KJR-AM and KLTX-FM in Seattle.
    The company also owns the Seattle SuperSonics of the National Basketball Association.
