WILDLIFE COUNCIL PASSES 1992-93 HUNTING AND TRAPPING REGULATIONS

WILDLIFE COUNCIL PASSES 1992-93 HUNTING AND TRAPPING REGULATIONS
COLUMBUS, Ohio, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Hunters will again be able to enter a random drawing this summer for a limited number of special management antlerless deer permits allowing them to take a second deer during the 1992-93 hunting season following approval last night by the Ohio Wildlife Council.
For the first time, turkey hunters will be given an opportunity to purchase a second wild turkey permit which will allow them to take a second bearded gobbler, but only during the final week of the turkey hunting season, which will be open in 42 counties April 26, 1993, through May 15, 1993, excluding Sundays. Lorain, Medina, Portage and Warren counties have been added to the list of 38 counties which will be open to wild turkey hunting, according to the Division of Wildlife.
Among the regulations adopted by the Wildlife Council, upon recommendation of Division of Wildlife Chief Richard Pierce, during its monthly meeting Thursday night, is one that adds archery equipment to the list of legal weapons for use during the one-week deer gun season in late fall. Hunters using archery equipment during the deer gun season are required to observe the state's hunter orange law. Deer of either sex may also be taken statewide during the entire deer gun season, which will be held Nov. 30 through Dec. 5.
Youth hunting opportunities were increased by inclusion of the Wellington Wildlife Area in Lorain County for the young hunters special season set for Oct. 24 and Oct. 31. In addition to Wellington, the young hunters special season is open on the Berlin, Caesar Creek, Delaware, Dillon, Grand River, Oxbow, Resthaven and
Spencer wildlife areas. On these selected wildlife areas during these two Saturdays, rabbits, pheasants, and all other legal game which is in season may be taken by hunters age 15 and under and must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult.
Also approved last night, two beaver trapping seasons will divide Ohio into a North and South zone, with Interstate 70 serving as the dividing line. Beaver trapping south of I-70 (South Zone) will be permitted from Jan. 1, 1993, through Feb. 28, 1993. North of I-70 (North Zone), beaver trapping is permitted from Jan. 23, 1993 - Feb. 23, 1993.
The Wildlife Council will also adopt migratory bird and waterfowl hunting season dates in compliance with federal guidelines during late summer.
