WIEDEBUSH JOINS METROPOLITAN FINANCIAL: NAMED BANK REGIONAL PRESIDENT

 MINNEAPOLIS, March 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Metropolitan Financial Corporation (NYSE: MFC) announced today that N. Thomas Wiedebush has joined the corporation as regional president of Metropolitan Federal Bank, fsb, Metropolitan's insured savings bank subsidiary. His responsibilities include North Dakota, South Dakota and Arizona, a region that covers 52 office locations and represent over $1.7 billion in deposits.
 Wiedebush had been affiliated with First Bank Systems for the past 25 years. He joined First Bank System in 1968 and has served in a number of key positions, including president of First Bank Benson, Minn. in 1978; First Bank Willmar, Minn. in 1980; First Bank St. Cloud, Minn. in 1984; and First Bank North Dakota in 1986. He was named chief executive officer of First Bank North Dakota in 1990.

Dardis, president and CEO of Metropolitan Federal Bank and executive vice president of Metropolitan Financial Corporation, said of Wiedebush, "Tom is a proven leader in the Fargo community and in the financial circles.  Wiedebush serves on the executive board as vice chairman of the Greater North Dakota Association and on the board of the Cass County (Fargo) Economic Development Corporation. He has also served as board member of the North Dakota Bankers Association and the Fargo Chamber of Commerce and as chairman of the Fargo United Way.
 A graduate of Northern State College in Aberdeen, S.D. with a bachelor's degree in business administration, he is a member of First Lutheran Church in Fargo. The parents of three children, he and his wife, Lynne, live in Fargo.
