WIDEROE EXPANDS de HAVILLAND DASH 8 FLEET WITH SEVEN ADDITIONAL AIRCRAFT

DOWNSVIEW, Ont., Nov. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Wideroe Flyveselskap A/S of Norway will expand its de Havilland Dash 8 Series 100B fleet by seven aircraft for a total of 15, the airline said yesterday. The value of the additional aircraft is approximately $77 million (U.S.).
The air carrier announced the placement of an initial order for eight de Havilland Dash 8 Series 100B aircraft and seven options in December of last year. This most recent announcement constitutes the conversion of those options to firm orders.
Wideroe inaugurated Dash 8 service on its route network beginning in June of this year and, to date, has taken delivery of four aircraft from its first order.
"We are very proud that Wideroe has chosen to exercise their options for seven additional Dash 8 aircraft," said Bombardier Regional Aircraft president Pierre Lortie. "The airline's passengers are already enjoying the results of considerably reduced in-cabin noise levels inherent in the Series 100B as well as enhanced comfort in the aircraft's ability to climb rapidly above mountain turbulence for smoother cruise operation."
The Dash 8 Series 100B incorporates the more powerful PW 121 engines which increase shaft horsepower to 2,150 from the standard 2,000 shp, providing improved airfield and climb performance at equivalent weights. The Series 100B also includes Dash 8 product improvements such as expanded tailwind and crosswind envelopes which enhance dispatch reliability and schedule completion rates at short-field, single-runway airports and provides reduced interior noise through the use of Tuned Vibration Absorbers (TVAs).
Wideroe is de Havilland's longest-standing airline customer having operated the Canadian manufacturer's products for 40 years. The airline first operated a DHC-2 Beaver in 1953, DHC-3 Otters in 1954, Twin Otters in the late 1960s and Dash 7 aircraft in the 1980s.
The airline plans to phase out its existing Twin Otter and Dash 7 aircraft eventually to offer passengers an all Dash 8 fleet.
To date, 271 Dash 8 Series 100 and 88 Dash 8 Series 300 aircraft have been delivered to 60 customers in 22 countries.
The Bombardier Regional Aircraft Division markets and supports the de Havilland Dash 8 family of regional turboprop airliners and the new Canadair Regional Jet.
de Havilland, Canadair, Bombardier Regional Aircraft and Learjet are units of Bombardier Aerospace Group - North America. Bombardier Inc., a Canadian corporation with some 36,500 employees internationally, is engaged in the fields of aerospace, transportation and motorized consumer products.
