WID Central Florida Chapter Celebrates 10th Anniversary.

Last year, Women In Defense's Central Florida chapter celebrated the 10th anniversary of its establishment. WID CFL marked the significant milestone by hosting a panel event highlighting "A Decade of Butterfly Effects," reflecting on how individuals and small teams make significant impacts on national security and defense at local, state and federal levels.

Florida House Rep. Anna V. Eskamani, D-Orlando, moderated a leadership panel featuring retired Air Force Gen. Hawk Carlisle, the president and CEO of NDIA; retired Air Force Gen. Lori Robinson, former commander of U.S. Northern Command and North American Aerospace Defense Command; and Lisa Sanders, the director of science and technology for U.S. Special Operations Command.

Five women have led the WID CFL chapter during its decade of service to its community, growing an idea into an amazing organization: Debbie Berry, founding president from 2009 through 2011; Terry Smith, president from 2011 through 2013; Tiffany Sanders, president from 2013 through 2015; Catherine Emerick, president from 2015 to 2017; and Karen Fray, president from 2017 through 2019.

Of particular note, after launching WID CFL, Berry continued to grow WID by serving as a mentor and key advisor during the establishment of Florida's other three WID chapters: Space Coast, Greater Tampa Bay and First Coast.
