WICAT ANNOUNCES MULTIMEDIA REFERENCE LEARNING PRODUCTS
 UTILIZING WORLD BOOK'S REFERENCE MATERIALS
OREM, Utah, Feb. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Wicat Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: WCAT) announces a new concept in K-12 education: Multimedia Reference Learning. Designed to teach students how to find and use information, Multimedia Reference Learning addresses a continuing need in education for instructional models that teach higher order reasoning and its applications. Multimedia Reference Learning integrates computer-based courseware from Wicat with World Book reference materials. Also included are a variety of built-in tools including Wicat's integrated Wordbench(TM) word processor, an on-line calculator, and a notepad. Unlike standalone reference works and word processors, which teachers and students must use out of context, Multimedia Reference Learning integrates information databases and tools with courseware to provide enhanced learning activities.
Initial products announced for immediate availability include Writing Plus (grades K-8) and Science II Plus (grades 5-9), which utilize World Book's CD ROM Encyclopedia (Information Finder) as a reference research source. These products tie together tutorial learning, simulation, research, and writing components to offer a full multi-disciplinary approach to content and process learning.
Wicat also announced plans for a Geography/Social Sciences product incorporating a new multimedia Atlas/Geography Reference from World Book, which will be available in 1993. This offering addresses a major identified need in U.S. education, and will be the first integrated (ILS) curriculum product to address this subject matter. It will utilize the full power of multimedia to address not only political geography, but also economic, cultural, and physical geography.
In addition to The World Book Encyclopedia and Information Finder, World Book Inc. publishes Childcraft-the How and Why Library, Early World of Learning, the new People and Places and many other top- quality educational resources for the home, school, and library.
Wicat Systems is a world leader in technology-based education and provides products and services to significantly improve learning in schools and industry. Wicat stock is traded in the NASDAQ Market under the symbol WCAT.
