WICAT ANNOUNCES AGREEMENT WITH AEROFORMATION AND FAROS FOR AIRBUS FREE-PLAY FMGS TRAINER

OREM, Utah, June 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Wicat Systems Inc. announced today an agreement with Aeroformation and Faros for the development and marketing of an innovative free-play simulation flight training device for Airbus A-320 and A-330/340 aircraft.
Earlier this year, Aeroformation had issued specifications for the proposed trainer, together with a request for cooperation. Wicat and Faros were chosen from six other proposals submitted to be development partners with Aeroformation.
The Airbus Free-play FMGS Trainer is a floor-standing unit with simulated cockpit instrumentation. Included in the trainer cockpit are 3-D replications of the Multifunction Control Display Unit (MCDU), the Flight Control Unit (FCU), the throttle and flap controls, as well as flat-panel representations of other cockpit instruments.
The new trainer also includes an integral, high-fidelity, free-play software simulation of the Flight Management and Guidance System in the A-320 and A-330/340 aircraft. The simulation system can operate as a stand-alone unit or be controlled by VACBI computer- based training (CBT) lessons.
The Airbus Free-play FMGS Trainer runs on AICC standard PC platforms. The controlling device for the trainer requires an 80486 CPU, 8 megabytes memory, 80+ megabytes of hard disk space, and a 20-inch high-resolution monitor with mouse.
According to Ric Ferrentino, managing director of Wicat, this represents a significant step for aviation training. "The Airbus Free-play FMGS Trainer product continues the trend of down-loading simulator training events to lower-cost platforms. These exciting new products will reduce time spent in simulators and better prepare pilots for transition to modern cockpit systems."
The new products will be exclusively marketed by Wicat to air carriers around the world and will be used for training flight and maintenance crews on the operation of Flight Management Systems, Autoflight Control Systems and their associated controls and displays for the A-320 and A-330/340 aircraft.
The initial A-320 units will be available in September. Pricing will vary depending on configurations and options. Pricing for one trainer, including simulation software, 3-D simulated cockpit with MCDU, FCU, flaps/slats and throttle controls, and a completely configured AICC-compatible PC workstation has been set at $150,000 (U.S.)
The free-play simulation software, developed by Faros, represents the next step in the upward evolution of PC-based simulations software. Using the advanced "Simulatix - SX2" development tools, the simulations combine high-fidelity images and realistic, real-time performance.
Aeroformation, a subsidiary of Airbus Industrie, is the Airbus training organization. Faros, of Lannion, France, is a developer of interactive simulation software products for industry and government.
Wicat Systems Inc., a Jostens Learning company, and a subsidiary of Jostens Inc. (NYSE: JOS), is a world leader in technology-based training products and services. Jostens stock is traded on the NYSE under the symbol JOS.
