WHO DID THIS TO ADAM? Appeal after brutal attack on student: Teen badly hurt in vicious attack.

A YOUNG man was left unable to breathe or speak properly after he was repeatedly hit in an unprovoked attack outside a Teesside club.

Adam Henry was set upon by three men outside the Arena nightclub on Newport Road at around 5am on New Year's Day. The 18-year-old student from Stockton suffered a broken nose and extensive damage to the cartilage, as well as severe bleeding and bruising. He spent a week in Middlesbrough's James Cook University Hospital and is expected to require ongoing treatment.

The Cleveland Police officer dealing with the case, PC Keith Longstaff, said the teenager's injuries were so serious that they have not yet been able to take a statement from him. "The cartilage was so badly damaged that it was torn away from his septum," he said. "He was barely recognisable due to the severe swelling and he had to have blood clots removed from his nose. "It looks like they have repeatedly targeted his face. He is still having difficulties breathing through his nose and he will have to have ongoing treatment in relation to his cartilage." PC Longstaff said the teenager's injuries are not just physical.

"He is struggling to speak about it, not just because of his injuries, but due to the violence involved in the attack," he said. "It was completely unprovoked. He had come out of the club with friends and was set upon. "He was possibly the victim of mistaken identity as there had been a previous disturbance there. "It has left him feeling fearful about returning to the Middlesbrough area, he is even fearful about going to the pub with his friends." It is believed that three men aged between 18 and 25 carried out the assault. PC Longstaff urged any witnesses to come forward. Call PC Longstaff on 01642 326326 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 55111.
