WHO'S THE DADIDAS? Wills in red trainers & jeans for polo day out.

NEW dads are often kept on their toes, dashing out for emergency nappy supplies and helping with night-time feeds.

And yesterday Prince William showed he was still on red alert when he turned up for a polo match in a pair of scarlet trainers.

In his first public appearance since leaving hospital with Kate and baby George on July 23, the prince joined brother Harry for a charity match at Ascot, Berks.

But like many tired parents Wills looked like he had grabbed the first thing he found in the wardrobe as he teamed the casual Adidas pumps with dazzling crisp white jeans and a smart blue shirt.

It's not his first fashion faux-pas in the fancy footwear - when he wore them to the Paralympics last summer Kate was sporting an identical pair.

The 31-year-old, who scored the winning goal for his team was presented with a mini polo mallet after the challenge match at Cosworth Park.

William jokingly asked if his prize was nappies, quipping: "I've got to pick some up on my way home."

The royal admitted it was "good to get out of the house" for an afternoon.

But meeting guests afterwards, he added: "I've got to make sure I'm not too late back."

Of his polo performance Wills admitted: "I was in baby mode out there, thinking about nappies, I wasn't really in the zone."

And asked about son George, he said: "He likes to move around a lot, he wriggles a lot."

William and Harry both played on the four-man Audi Quattro team as they took on Audi Ultra watched by spectators including former Doctor Who sidekick Karen Gillan. But there was no sign of Kate who attended last year with their puppy Lupo.

She is thought to be at her parents' home in Bucklebury, Berkshire, with Prince George.

This year's match was in aid of good causes SkillForce and The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, of which William is patron and president.

The RAF search and rescue pilot prince is currently on paternity leave, but is expected to return to work at some point next week. Kate has yet to announce when her first engagement after giving birth will be, but Clarence House has said this will happen in a matter of weeks rather than months. William is also due at the Anglesey Show in a fortnight where he will watch gundog displays and cattle judging.

Forget trainers for that, Wills. You'll need to give it some welly.
