 WHITMORE NAMED TO NATIONAL GOVERNORS'
 ASSOCIATION'S INITIATIVE
ROCHESTER, N.Y., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Kay R. Whitmore, Kodak (NYSE: EK) president, chairman and chief executive officer, has been named to the National Governors' Association initiative "Redefining the Possible: Achieving the National Education Goals."
Gov. John Ashcroft, chairman of the NGA, is encouraging states to take statewide, systemic actions to renew schools. Action teams of governors and business leaders have been assembled to define and demonstrate new possibilities in three critical areas: school readiness; the school years; and lifelong learning.
Whitmore will be a member of the School Years Action Team which is chaired by Wyoming Gov. Michael Sullivan. The team includes J. Roger Hirl, president and CEO of Occidental Chemical Corporation; Arizona Gov. Fife Symington; Maine Gov. John R. McKernan; Michigan Gov. John Engler; Nevada Gov. Bob Miller; North Carolina Gov. James G. Martin; Oklahoma Gov. David Walters; South Dakota Gov. George S. Mickelson; Tennessee Gov. Ned Ray McWherter; and Utah Gov. Norman H. Bangerter.
Whitmore's participation in the initiative is part of the company's continuing involvement in education programs. In the Rochester area, many employees participate in Kodak's "21st Century Learning Challenge" -- a partnership between Kodak units, the Rochester City School District and community organizations. The program includes in-class participation by Kodak workers and student visits to Kodak sites.
