WHITLATCH & CO., AREA'S LARGEST HOME BUILDER, CELEBRATES SALE OF ITS 1,000TH HOME

CLEVELAND, Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Whitlatch & Co., northeast Ohio's largest home builder, will celebrate the sale of its 1,000th home Jan. 29, with a parade through its Ethan's Woods Condominium at Ethan's Green in Twinsburg. The development is located off state Route 91, two- and-a-half miles south of state Route 43.
The parade, which begins at 3:45 p.m., will be led by Dr. Gregory Powell and Cheryl Blanck-Powell, buyers of the 1,000th Whitlatch & Co. home. The parade will conclude in front of the Powell's new, two- bedroom home, where Whitlatch & Co. principals Bill Whitlatch and Bob Pruchnicki will present a $1,000 check, in the Powells' name, to Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity. Cleveland Mayor Michael White's proclamation of "Whitlatch & Co. Day" will be announced, followed by presentations to Twinsburg city officials.
As buyers of the 1,000th Whitlatch & Co. home, the Powells also will receive a $1,000 gift certificate from Levin Furniture, a natural gas grill from East Ohio Gas and a gourmet meal served in their home by Please Your Palate Caterers of Hudson.
Twinsburg-based Whitlatch & Co., founded in 1983, has prospered, despite a sluggish economy that has contributed to sharp decreases in home sales and home building across the nation. President Bill Whitlatch attributed the company's success to strategic niche marketing.
"There's no shortage of housing in northeast Ohio," Whitlatch said. "In fact, homes available in the higher-end range exceed demand, while the need for affordable housing continues to grow."
To fill this void, Whitlatch and executive vice president Bob Pruchnicki have focused on building affordable condominiums to meet the specific needs of the growing numbers of successful middle income buyers, typically smaller households consisting of two individuals. "Our target market includes a variety of buyers like empty nesters, retirees, young professionals and first-time buyers, all looking for attractive, top-quality housing that fits within their budget," Whitlatch said.
Starting prices for Whitlatch & Co. condominiums range from $77,500 to $100,000 - a price Whitlatch and Pruchnicki feel is right for the marketplace. "Reasonable base prices offer our buyers more flexibility in customizing their homes," Whitlatch said.
Whitlatch & Co. received the 1992 "Builder of the Year" award from the Building Industry Association of Cleveland & Surrounding Counties. In 1993 the company will be building and marketing condominiums and single family homes in Cuyahoga Falls, Macedonia, North Royalton, Northfield Center, Richmond Heights, Streetsboro, Strongsville and Twinsburg.
