BELLFLASK 01677 470716 / HG4 5LW County Durham anglers R Matthews and P Matthews had 20 and 11 trout respectively, most of which fell to Damsel Nymphs. Chris Dodds landed 11 on Zonkers, while Shaun Higgin caught 11 and Ian Bradfil had 13, the best fish at 10lb.

CHATTON TROUT FISHERY 01668 215226 / NE66 5RF Fish of the week was a 15lb rainbow caught by Chris Hodgson from Berwick on a Black Lure. The lakes are still coloured after the recent rainfall but are clearing. Anglers are catching at varying depths using Buzzers, Dawson's Olive, Montana, Orange Fritz and Black Bunny Leeches. The Chatton Ladies meet this Saturday at 9.30am in the lodge. All welcome. The fishery is fully booked on Saturday, February 27 for the Fritz n Flies Final Competition. The fishery closes at 4.30pm this week.

KNITSLEY MILL 07960 774741 / DH8 9EL The Mill and Groom Fly Fishers competition was won by Greg Wigham with nine trout including an 11lb 8oz brown trout. Wayne Blemmings landed six trout and Ted McQuigan had five. Eammon Looney caught three while Brain Laddie had two including a brown trout of 16lb 8oz. Best flies were: Green and White Flappers, Cats Whisker, Black and Green Fritz and Tinnies. The next monthly competition is this Saturday, with a 9am start.

LANGLEY DAM 01434 688846 / NE47 5LD Sport has picked up after the lake has cleared. Lures are doing well with the Cats Whisker top fly. Trout to 9lb have been landed. Other good flies have been Black Snake, Zonkers, Black Lures and Dawson's Olive.

MARKLE TROUT FISHERY 01620 861213 / EH40 3EB Catch-and-release anglers did really well last week. Regular Neil Raeburn caught 10 trout on Bugs, while Mark Anderson landed eight on Rabbits. Several other regular rods landed between six and eight fish on Nomads, App's Bloodworm, Damsel Nymphs and Buzzers.

SHARPLEY SPRINGS 0191 581 8045 / SR7 0NP The fishery didn't suffer too much with the hard night frosts of late. Sport has been very good and top fish of the week was a 10lb rainbow; landed by Anthony Pick of Hexham on the Hare's Ear. The biggest catch went to Stew Spencer from Newcastle catching 19, also on the Hare's Ear. Tom Reay from Gateshead caught 15; as did Anthony Meadows from Chopwell. Anglers averaged 3.1 trout per visit. Top flies were: Red Buzzer, Hare's Ear, Pinky, Bloodworm, Black F Fly, Weighted Diawl Bach, Cats Whisker, Black and Green Nomad and Blobs.

THRUNTON LONG CRAG FISHERY 01665 574400 / 07795 002607 Sport has been very good this week with a wide variety of flies producing some excellent bags. Phil Raisbeck from Widdrington and Ali Tait, Morpeth, both landed 20 trout on Pink Zonker, Mitten Fly and Black Buzzers. Eight of Mr Tait's catch were in the 6lb to 8lb range. The best fish of the week was a 14lb rainbow caught by Tom Ryan from Newcastle from Log Crag on a Cruncher. Among the many excellent catches were Mitch Fawcus from Blyth with 16 trout caught on his home-tied Blue Flash Damsel; Shaun Heron, also from Blyth, landed eight on Bloodworms; Peter Foster from Newcastle caught nine on Green Diawl Bach; Jim Smith from Blyth caught 15 trout to 7lb on a Mini Cat, while Jim Burtle from Newcastle landed eight on a Pink Nomad. Crunchers, Zonkers, Bloodworm, Diawl Bach, Cats Whisker, Buzzers, Mini Cats were the top flies with pink and black and green the catching colours.
