WHERE THE FISH ARE AND HOW TO CATCH THEM.

ALDIN GRANGE LAKES 07901 538 587/Sat Nav DH77AR Regular rod Dave Park landed 11 trout on Squirmy Worms while Tony Donnelly also caught 11 on Bloodworm. Brian Dawson caught over 20 fish in two visits. Top flies have been: CdC F Fly, Buzzers, Pink Fritz and various lures.

CHATTON TROUT FISHERY 01668 215 226 / Sat Nav NE66 5RF Top flies were: Bloodworm, Various Nymphs, Buzzers Dries and various lures. Among the top catches was Geet Jan Van Zon from Morpeth, keeping three fish for 13lb. Tony Robinson from Howtel caught 10 fish, including a brown of 6lb to Bloodworm and Nymphs. John Cowell from Ashington landed 10 trout on lures, while Guide Post angler Robert Hedley kept five trout and returned an 8lb brown trout. Matty Divine from Hadston landed 17 trout to 9lb on Bloodworm and lures.

DERWENT RESERVOIR 01207 255 250 / Sat Nav DH89TT 143 anglers caught 371 trout to 3lb in a week when better conditions meant good catches. Joe Carr, Doug Pearson and Phil Bradford all took 10-fish limit bags on Powerbaits and Mice Tails. Top flies were Dawson's Olive and Cats Whisker. Some parts of the reservoir will be closed on Sunday for the Annual Coarse Fishing Championship. Contact the ranger on the above number for more details.

FONTBURN RESERVOIR 01669 621 368 /Sat Nav NE614PL Water levels rose appreciably and the extra water saw fish gathering near inlets. R Watson caught five good trout on ledgered baits. D Hancock and George Walton had four trout each. There are lots of trout still to be caught in the reservoir and the higher levels could turn the sport on again. Top flies were Consett Budgie and Cats Whisker. Powerbait Eggs, worm and various spinners took trout.

GRASSHOLME RESERVOIR 01833 641 121 / Sat Nav DL120PW Water levels rose this week and the Dam Wall area reopened. J Hall caught six good trout while S Blackett had seven on float fished worm. J Close took the fish of the week at 4lb 6oz. Roving tactics paid off for fly anglers and those who were spinning. Fish were often close in. Dawson's Olive, Floating Fry and Cats Whisker were top fly patterns. Mepps, Chartreuse Powerbait Eggs and worm were the top baits.

HURY RESERVOIR 01833 641 121 / Sat Nav DL129UP Anglers averaged just under three fish a visit in a good week. D Carr landed 10 trout including the best of the week at 4lb 8oz in his 21lb bag. Two days later he landed seven for 11lb 8oz. B Raine had five rainbows for 10lb 8oz, including one of 4lb. Top flies were Dawson's Olive, Bibio and Floating Fry.

JUBILEE LAKES 01388 772 611 /DL22UH Fishing has been good despite the poor weather. Cats Whisker, Orange Blob and Green and Black Lures have been effective. Michael Broadbent landed two good fish of 4lb and 4lb 1oz caught on Hare's Ear and Cats Whisker. Stuart Ryan from Coxhoe landed rainbows of 6lb 11oz and 3lb 11oz. KIELDER WATER 01434 251 000 / Sat Nav NE48 1BT Poor weather kept anglers away this week, but those who turned out caught fish. J M Sinkinson took some good fish to 2lb 7oz, while Michael Hayes landed the best trout of the week at 3lb 5oz.Worm was the top method. Best flies were Cats Whisker and Orange Blob. Powerbait, Worm and Spinners did best for bait rods.

KNITSLEY MILL 07960 774 741 /Sat / Nav DH89EL Top flies this week were: Olive Zonkers, Bloodworms, Damsels and Tinies. December 13 sees another Fritz n Flies Qualifier at the fishery. Names to the fishery or Jim Tuck. The next monthly open friendly competition is on this Saturday beginning at 9am, and all are welcome. LOCKWOOD BECK 01287 660 501 /Sat Nav TS123LQ 48 bait anglers caught 195 trout with worm, maggot and powerbait and also plenty roach and perch. Fly anglers averaged 4.7 trout per visit with Colin Brown top rod with 30 trout caught on small white lures. Mrs Olive Murray landed 14 trout over two visits, while Tim Grove had two visits catching 10 and 12 respectively. NAWORTH TROUT FISHERY 07831 862 863/ Sat Nav CA8 2QS Anglers had a steady week of sport with plenty fish at the surface offering good sport with nymphs and dries. Buzzers fished just sub-surface did really well. M Graham landed an excellent 15lb rainbow caught on fly while D Blackett's best fish tipped the scales at 10lb 8oz.

SWEETHOPE LOUGHS 01830 540 349 Sat Nav NE192PN Poor weather did not prevent some reasonable catches with the Great Lough fishing better this week. Greg Lewins did well with a Blue Squirmy Worm. Top flies were: Cats Whisker, Gold Fritz, Claret Hopper, Dabblers, Crunchers, and Squirmy Worm.

THRUNTON LONG CRAG FISHERY 01665 574 400 / Mob 07795 002607 Shaun Heron from Ashington landed 14 trout on Yellow Tinheads while West Woodburn rod Ray Wood had an excellent day catching 11 on Cats Whisker and Damsels. Phil Stone from Chester-le-Street also caught 11 trout on Yellow Dancers, Buzzers and Damsels. Joe Brown from Bedlington landed 12 on a Cats Whisker and Rob Frame from West Denton landed 15 on Blobs. Stuart Younger from Blyth had 10 trout on Damsels and Blobs and Pete Davison from New Hartley landed 16 on Blobs.

WITTON CASTLE LAKES 01388 488 691 / DL140DE Hatches of Buzzers, Daddies and Hoppers have kept anglers busy this week. Anglers averaged around three fish a visit with R McCullagh the only rod to catch a 15-fish limit. Terry Ross from Willington landed 10. J Walker and G Oliver both landed 8lb rainbows while K Hewitson had one of 7lb. Diawl Bach, Buzzers, CdC's ,Blobs and various lures took most trout.
