WHEELABRATOR AIR POLLUTION CONTROL, PULLMAN POWER PRODUCTS AWARDED $30 MILLION CONTRACT FOR HENDERSON MUNICIPAL POWER AND LIGHT

PITTSBURGa?rch 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Wheelabrator Air Pollution Control (NYSE: WTI) and Pullman Power Products Corporation have been awarded a contract valued at approximately $30 million to design, supply and construct a wet flue gas desulfurization (scrubber) system and a chimney for Henderson Municipal Power and Light, Station Two, in Henderson, Ky. This contract is one of the first to involve the use of sulfur dioxide (SO2) emission allowances as part of the transaction.
The system is designed to control SO2 emissions from the plant's two 172-megawatt, coal-fired boilers.
The scope of the turnkey contract includes the supply and installation of two Wheelabrator wet Dual-Flow-Tray absorbers that will use lime slurry as a reagent to clean the SO2 from the flue gas. Cleaned gases from the scrubber will be ducted to a 350-foot reinforced concrete chimney designed and constructed by Pullman. Construction is expected to begin during the third quarter of 1993 and be completed in 1995.
Wheelabrator Air Pollution Control and Pullman Power Products Corporation are Wheelabrator Technologies Inc. (WTI) companies. WTI, a multi-faceted environmental services company, is a majority-owned subsidiary of Waste Management, Inc. Wheelabrator is the nation's leading developer and operator of trash-to-energy and cogeneration facilities and supplies air pollution control systems for industrial and utility applications.
