WHAT WE DID ON OUR HOLIDAY; Movies.
Byline: With DAVID EDWARDS
Cert 12A, Running time 95mins
After such catastrophic misfires as The Decoy Bride, Postman Pat: The Movie and especially Nativity 2, it's a good bet that former Dr Who David Tennant wishes he hadn't given up the Time Lord gig. And nothing much has changed here.
The former Gallifreyan and Rosamund Pike are a separated couple heading to the Highlands with their three young children to celebrate the birthday of his terminallyill dad (Billy Connolly). Since the old fella doesn't have long left, they decide to keep their split to themselves. But - and hang on to your ribs - it turns out the other guests have even bigger secrets.
The laughs, what there are of them, derive from the kids' semiimprovised dialogue, with one tyke saying something rude or bitingly to the point, followed by a shot of Tennant or Pike looking uncomfortable.
The only person to emerge unscathed is Connolly, whose recent diagnosis with Parkinson's adds some poignancy to his performance. This holiday is about as much fun as a wet weekend in Chernobyl.
