WHAT MAKES YOU GET UP AND GO? THIS WEEK: CHRIS PERRY-METCALFE; Active.
EACH week we ask some of Merseyside's famous faces to share their health and fitness secrets with us. This week we find out how actor and amateur boxer Chris Perry-Metcalfe, who is opening his own gym in Liverpool this month, keeps fit...
HOWDO YOU KEEP FIT?
I just try to do something that is different and fun. I hate going to the gym and spending hours on something like a treadmill.
That is why I got into boxing. I also love football and play with the lads weekly. I train hard but try to vary it so it doesn't get boring. When it is boring you don't want to do it and become lazy. If you can find something that you really enjoy - like boxing for me - then you don't even realise that you are doing exercise.
BEST PLACE TO KEEP FIT?
I love running outdoors on the road and it is essential for my boxing training.
Being outdoors is a great place to keep fit. It is good to do different things and to make it fun. As well as being outdoors I love training at my boxing gym. With pads, sparring, skipping etc there is so much going on and it is really hard work.
TELL US ABOUT YOUR DIET?
Like most people I am good during the week and then it goes to pot at the weekend when I pig out on pizza and Chinese. Seriously, when I have been out with my mates the night before I am starving the next day and can eat anything and everything.
To compensate during the week I try to adopt the philosophy to eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince and eat dinner like a pauper. I will have things like porridge and honey for breakfast, a jacket potato for lunch and something light in the evenings.
WHAT IS IN YOUR FRIDGE NOW?
My fridge is full of simple, healthy food. I use the supermarket shop as a chance to stock up on heathy stuff - which drives my girlfriend mad as she loves things like crisps and chocolate. I always think if it is in the house I will eat it so try not to buy it in the first place. So in my fridge are simple things like salads, chicken breast, fruit and veg, cheese and wholemeal bread.
My girlfriend says it is boring.
Chinese food is my ultimate weakness. One of the best Chinese takeaways is just five minutes from my house and it does free delivery.
When we are really hungry we order loads and love their chicken and sweetcorn soup.
All I have done over Christmas is eat. I have really got out of my healthy routine and am now ready to get back into training.
