WHAT'S the difference between Advocate [...].

WHAT'S the difference between Advocate and Advantage cat flea treatments? I am aware that one of them needs a prescription. Sarah, by email BARTON replies: Advocate cannot be bought over the counter and requires the prescription. The main difference between these cat flea treatments is that Advantage only contains imidacloprid, whereas Advocate is a multi-purpose medication that combines imidacloprid with moxidectin.

Moxidectin is a much stronger and more comprehensive anti-parasiticide that needs regulation, hence the prescription.

Advantage treats fleas - Advocate treats fleas plus prevents heartworm, hookworm and roundworm in dogs and cats and other external parasites, such as lice, demodex and scabies.
