WESTPOINT PEPPERELL NAMES MORGAN M. (MAC) SCHUESSLER CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER AND AN EXECUTIVE V.P.
RONALD M. (RON) HESTER PROMOTED TO PRESIDENT, ALAMAC KNIT DIVISION WEST POINT, Ga., March 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Joseph L. Jennings Jr., president and chief operating officer of WestPoint Pepperell (NYSE: WPM), announced today that Morgan M. (Mac) Schuessler has been named chief financial officer and an executive vice president of the company, the nation's leading manufacturer and marketer of bed and bath products. Schuessler will join the company April 1. Jennings also announced the promotion of Ronald M. (Ron) Hester to president of the company's Alamac Knit Division, effective immediately. He had been vice president - manufacturing/dyeing/finishing/distribution at Alamac's Division offices in Lumberton, N.C., where Hester, 50, will continue to make his headquarters. Schuessler, 57, previously was senior vice president and chief financial officer for Dixie Yarns, Inc. of Chattanooga, Tenn. He had been with Dixie Yarns, Inc., since 1982. Schuessler is a former executive of WestPoint Pepperell, having been with the company from 1964 until 1970 successively as controller-Consumer Products Division, corporate vice president-Planning and vice president-Operations at Alamac. Among other positions, he has been president and chief executive officer of DeSoto Falls, Inc., Dalton, Ga.; executive vice president- Finance and Administration, Coronet Industries, and vice president- Finance and Administration, Arvida Corp. At WestPoint Pepperell, Schuessler succeeds Stanley Kees, who resigned in January 1993. He will make his office in West Point. A native of Roanoke, Ala., Schuessler earned his BA degree at Georgia Institute of Technology in 1957 and graduated from the Harvard Business School in 1964, where he was a Baker Scholar. He served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force and serves on the board of directors of Commercial Bank Shares, Roanoke, Ala., and of Masland Carpets, Inc., Mobile, Ala. Hester, who will report to Jennings, joined the company at Alamac facilities in Lumberton in 1963. He has served in various manufacturing and plant management positions within Alamac before being named manager of Lumberton Plant in 1978. He advanced in 1979 to general manager- Lumberton Manufacturing/Distribution; in 1980 to general manager-Piece Dyeing/Finishing/Production; in 1984 to vice president of Manufacturing- Knit Fabrics; and later in that same year to vice president- Manufacturing/Dyeing/Finishing/Distribution, and in 1989 to his most recent position -- vice president-Manufacturing for Alamac. "We now have a very solid management team in place within the Alamac operations and under Ron's leadership we look forward to significant growth and development from this segment of the company," Jennings said. He also noted that this position had been unfilled since the March 1990 resignation of C.L. Schaller.
