WESTON WINS PENNSYLVANIA LOW LEVEL RADIOACTIVE WASTE
MANAGEMENT SUPPORT SERVICES CONTRACT VALUED AT $3 MILLION
WEST CHESTER, Pa., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- - The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Resources (DER) has awarded Roy F. Weston, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTNA) (WESTONR) a five-year contract, valued at $3 million, to provide DER with technical and consulting support in overseeing low level radioactive waste disposal site development activities in Pennsylvania, it was announced today.
WESTON Vice President Peter J. Marks said, "We are very pleased to receive our second consecutive contract with DER to support its efforts in overseeing the development of a low level radioactive waste disposal facility. This award reaffirms DER's satisfaction with WESTON's performance.
"The type of work WESTON will perform under this contract parallels the support required by the U.S. Department of Energy on its radioactive waste projects and will position the company well to receive future contracts," Marks concluded.
Specific tasks WESTON will continue to perform under this latest contract include planning and administrative support, regulation development, public involvement support, license application review, and siting, design and construction oversight.
Federal and state laws require the development of facilities for the permanent disposal of low level radioactive waste. By joining compacts, states can provide for their own waste disposal. Pennsylvania has agreed to be the host state for the Appalachian Compact which also includes Maryland, Delaware and West Virginia. This allows Pennsylvania to dispose of its own waste and waste generated by the compact states, while banning states from outside the compact region access to their disposal facility.
WESTON is a leading full-service environmental engineering, design and consulting firm providing nationwide analytical laboratory services, consulting and engineering, remediation, facility construction and operations, technical information management and major program management services.
WESTON's clients include many Fortune 500 companies and several major cities in the country. The company is a principal provider of services to the U.S. Department of Defense and the Department of Energy.
The company is headquartered in West Chester and operates a network of four analytical laboratories and 45 offices, including Denver, Albuquerque, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Houston, Chicago, New York and Washington.
