 WESTON WINS $4 MILLION MILITARY ENVIRONMENTAL CLEANUP CONTRACT;
 WASTE REMOVAL UNDER WAY AT PEASE AFB, NEW HAMPSHIRE
 WEST CHESTER, Pa., July 7 /PRNewswire/ -- As many as 59 underground fuel storage tank sites will undergo environmental investigation at the recently decommissioned Pease Air Force Base, near Portsmouth, N.H., it was announced today by Roy F. Weston, Inc. (NASDAQ: WSTNA) (WESTON)(R), a nationwide environmental services firm.
 Under its new $4 million year-long assignment, WESTON will determine the extent of contaminated soils and groundwater surrounding buried storage tanks currently in use, abandoned or previously removed. Additionally, WESTON will investigate a general waste site containing used paint cans and related debris, and remove detected hazardous materials for off-site disposal.
 In 1991 Pease became the first U.S. Air Force base to "stand down" for eventual conversion to civilian use under the 1988 Base Closure Act. More than 35 years of Strategic Air Command service created environmental problems within Pease's 4,500-acre complex of runways, structures and storage facilities.
 Contamination occurred primarily from routine base operations that serviced and maintained thousands of military aircraft and vehicles over the last two decades.
 Taking up the tanks, the underground storage tanks, once with a combined capacity of nearly 175,000 gallons, have held a variety of environmentally hazardous liquids such as aircraft, vehicle and generator fuels, de-icing fluids and cleaning solvents. During the project, WESTON will pinpoint contaminated soils, groundwater and drainage areas resulting from spills or leakage from the tanks, some more than 35 years old. WESTON teams will collect and remove the soils, disassemble up to 20 tank structures and dispose of them off-base.
 Since 1989, WESTON has been working with Pease Air Force Base to develop and begin executing a strategic environmental plan for the entire installation, including all hazardous waste investigation and remediation, as well as construction and operation of groundwater treatment systems.
 WESTON is a full-service environmental engineering, design and consulting firm providing nationwide analytical services, consulting and engineering, remediation, facility construction and operations, technical information management and major program services. The company is headquartered in West Chester and operates a national network of 45 offices including New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Houston, Boston, Atlanta and Washington, D.C.
