WESTLAKE TURNS ON THE POWER IN 17-3 WIN OVER ST. FRANCIS.

Ryan McCarthy, Garrett Michaels, Ryan Brockett, John Shepard, Kevin Howard and Micheal Nickeas homered for Westlake High on Saturday as the host Warriors crushed St. Francis 17-3 in the second round of the Daily News Invitational.

Shepard added a double for Westlake (1-0-1), which scored 10 runs in the first inning of the four-inning mercy-rule decision. The Warriors totaled 14 hits against the Golden Knights (0-2), who managed just three hits off starter and winner Jesse Kozlowski and two relievers.

Chaminade 10, Palmdale 7: The visiting Eagles (2-0) struck for three runs in the first inning but trailed 5-4 and 7-6 before securing the win with a four-run seventh. Matt Harrington homered to lead the Falcons (1-1), who were outhit 14-7.

Highland 14, Paraclete 4: Jason Kubel tripled and doubled, and Brandon Golphenee and John Santor homered to lead the host Bulldogs (1-1) past the Spirits (1-1), who fell behind 9-1 after two innings.

Lancaster 5, La Canada 4: The host Eagles (1-1) overcame a 3-2 Spartans lead with a two-run fifth inning, then broke a 4-4 tie with a run in the seventh to hand La Canada a second straight tournament loss. The Spartans (0-2) lost Friday night to South Gate.

Notre Dame 5, Thousand Oaks 3: Jon Horvitz and Jonathan Brewster doubled in a 12-hit attack by the visiting Knights (2-0), who won with three runs in the top of the eighth inning after the Lancers (1-1) tied the game with a run in the seventh.

Harvard-Westlake 8, Calabasas 1: Dave Milken had two hits, including a three-run home run, and added three stolen bases to lead the Wolverines (1-1) past the Coyotes (1-1) at Calabasas. Rob Lowenthal added two hits, including a two-run double, as Harvard-Westlake totaled seven hits to back up the six-strikeout pitching of Chad Garson.

Valencia 12, Quartz Hill 7: Chris Rippe doubled twice to lead the Vikings (1-1), who broke a 1-1 tie with a four-run third inning, then broke the game open with a seven-run fourth. Eric Connelly homered and Matt Lopez doubled for visiting Quartz Hill, which was outhit 15-12.

Glendale 5, Antelope Valley 0: Christian Alcaraz doubled twice and Jacob Reeves and Kevin Hickox each doubled once for the Dynamiters (2-0).

Glendale's Art Cordova had four strikeouts in a complete-game win. The visiting Antelopes (1-1), who outhit the Dynamiters 9-7, trailed just 2-0 before Glendale scored three runs in the fifth.

Other tournament results:

Crespi 9, Brea Olinda 2: Winner Mike Jackson struck out 12, combining with Clint Kofmehl for a two-hitter, and Joel Garcia doubled twice, singled and

drove in three runs as the No. 3-ranked Celts improved to 2-0 in the El Segundo tournament.

Marmonte League entries Royal and Agoura also improved to 2-0 in El Segundo tournament play. Royal got home runs from Ryan Wilson and Brian Lipman in an 11-1 win over Long Beach Poly, while Michael Falco homered and saved the pitching win for Brian Ashford in the Chargers' 2-0 victory over Burroughs.

Chatsworth 6, Bishop Montgomery 1: The top-seeded Chancellors got a double and triple from Jason Spector and two doubles from Jeff Spector while improving to 2-0 in the Westside tournament with a 6-1 win over Bishop Montgomery.
