WESTINGHOUSE WINS $7 MILLION WASTE CONTAINER CONTRACT

WESTINGHOUSE WINS $7 MILLION WASTE CONTAINER CONTRACT
PITTSBURGH, Jan. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Westinghouse Electric Corporation's (NYSE: WX) Environmental Group has received a $7 million contract to provide 20,000 polyethylene storage containers for use at the Department of Energy's (DOE) Gaseous Diffusion Plant in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
Under terms of the contract, Westinghouse subsidiary Scientific Ecology Group, Inc., (SEG) will provide the containers over a nine-month period to Martin Marietta Energy Systems, Inc., which operates the plant for the DOE. Martin Marietta will use the containers to package low-level mixed waste and to overpack storage drums. The contract also contains an option for up to 50,000 additional containers.
Components for the containers will be manufactured in conjunction with Gregory Enterprises of Carlsbad, N.M. Assembly and final testing will take place at the SEG facility in Oak Ridge.
Westinghouse won the contract in part because of the unique cost-effective design of the containers, which include both a traditional O ring seal and a machined interlock on the container lid.
The Westinghouse Environmental Group is a leading international environmental services organization. Through various divisions and subsidiaries, the group provides a complete range of services for the effective management of both hazardous and low-level radioactive wastes. Services offered include environmental assessment and engineering, remediation, decommissioning, waste treatment and incineration, transportation, storage and disposal.
