WESTINGHOUSE AWARDED $94-MILLION FLORIDA POWER PLANT CONTRACT
ORLANDO, Fla., Nov. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Westinghouse Electric Corporation (NYSE: WX) today announced it has been awarded a $94-million contract to supply a combined cycle cogeneration power plant in central Florida by the Auburndale Power Partners Limited Partnership.
Westinghouse will supply the 150-megawatt power plant on a turnkey basis.
The project will generate about 200 jobs in the Auburndale, Fla., area during plant construction and 25 jobs once it is in operation.
The plant's power island will be based on a Westinghouse Model 501D5 combustion turbine. In this highly efficient design, the waste heat from the combustion turbine will produce steam which powers a small steam turbine.
The power plant's combustion turbine will be produced at Westinghouse's Pensacola, Fla.-based manufacturing facility and is scheduled for delivery during the second quarter of 1993, said Frank Bakos, vice president and general manager of the Westinghouse Power Generation business unit.
The Auburndale Cogeneration facility is expected to begin commercial operation in the third quarter of 1994. It will supply power to Florida Power Corporation and steam to local industries in Auburndale.
The Auburndale Power Partners Limited Partnership is a unit of Mission Energy Company of Fairfax, Va. Mission Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Mission Group, is the largest developer of independent power generation in the U.S. The Mission Group is a unit of SCE Corp. of Rosemead, Calif.
