WESTINGHOUSE ANNOUNCES SALE OF ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS DIVISION
BALTIMORE, Jan. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- The Westinghouse Electric Corporation's (NYSE: WX) Electronic Systems Group announced today that it has entered into an agreement to sell its Electrical Systems Division located in Lima, Ohio, to the Sundstrand Corporation.
Westinghouse's Electrical Systems Division produces aircraft electrical power systems and employs about 950 personnel in Lima, in Puerto Rico and at service centers located in Los Angeles and Miami.
The proposed transaction is in keeping with a Westinghouse corporate policy of encouraging individual business units to manage their assets to create resources for profitable growth in their most promising markets.
"Sale of the Electrical Systems Division to Sundstrand will permit us to redeploy resources and investments to non-defense core businesses in order to achieve our diversification objectives," said Richard A. Linder, president of the Westinghouse Electronic Systems Group.
A $3.2 billion segment of Westinghouse, the Electronic Systems Group is a global leader in airborne and ground radar, space electronics, air traffic control, and command and control systems. The group has set a strategic objective of rapidly diversifying within its markets and achieving an equal mix of defense and non-defense business by 1995.
Sundstrand, headquartered in Rockford, Ill., is a producer of equipment for the aerospace and industrial markets, including aircraft electrical power systems, auxiliary power equipment, compressors and pumps. Sales totalled $1.6 billion in 1990.
Completion of this transaction is subject to appropriate government review and the approval of the directors of Westinghouse and Sundstrand.
