WESTIN HOTELS & RESORTS TESTS EXTENSIVE BUSINESS SERVICES PACKAGE
SEATTLE, Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Westin Hotels & Resorts is testing a new business services package in the United States that will enhance productivity for business travelers and provide more services at a lower cost than any other hotel company currently provides.
The Westin Business Package is being tested at four hotels: The Westin Tabor Center in Denver; The Westin Galleria, Dallas; The Westin Hotel, Santa Clara, Calif.; and the Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles. Each hotel has equipped five deluxe rooms with the package components including a facsimile machine and a business phone. Guests will receive the third component, a portable cellular phone, at check-in and will pay cellular phone usage charges upon check-out. Personal computers and/or portable printers are available to guests for an additional charge and may be reserved without purchasing the Westin Business Package.
The cost of the Westin Business Package is $10 and is available to guests when they make reservations through the individual hotel or through Westin's central reservations office at 800-228-3000. Guests may also obtain the Westin Business Package upon arrival at the hotel if the technology-equipped rooms are available.
"This package was not designed as a revenue center for Westin, rather as a solid response to what our guests tell us they need to do business more effectively while traveling," said Jim Treadway, president of Westin Hotels & Resorts, North America. "Our preliminary research has revealed that the elements we provide in the Westin Business Package are the additional conveniences business travelers want most," he said.
Upon check-in a hotel employee will escort the guest to his or her room and provide basic usage instructions on all the equipment. Each item will also be accompanied with printed, "user-friendly" instructions. Hotel staff members will be available 24 hours a day for assistance. Details of components:
 In-Room Facsimile Service
The In-Room Fax Service will be part of a global communications network that will allow guests the convenience and confidentiality of receiving and sending facsimiles from their rooms around the clock.
 Westin Cellular Service
The Westin Cellular Service will offer lower usage rates than the cellular rates provided by phone rental companies. In addition, all unanswered, incoming calls to a guest's room will be forwarded to the guest's cellular phone. If the cellular phone is not answered, the call will be forwarded to the guest's voice mailbox. Westin offers voice mail services at nearly all of its properties in the United States and Canada.
 Business Phones
Each guest room will be equipped with an upgraded business phone which will include a two-way speaker, a standard data port for computer usage, and two in-bound lines.
 Personal Computing
Lap top computers and portable printers will be available to guests for an additional charge. Equipment and software options include:
-- IBM-compatible 386 SX notebook computer with WordPerfect, Lotus 1-2-3, Procomm, Windows, Word and Excel software
-- Apple Macintosh Powerboat 170 with Excel and Word software
-- Diconix Portable Ink Jet Printer
Similar business services are available at Caesar Park Hotels, Westin's brand of hotels in South America. Properties are located in Rio de Janiero and Sao Paolo, Brazil. Two new Caesar Park Hotels will open in October in Fortaleza, Brazil, and Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The Westin Business Package components will continue to be evaluated throughout the pilot test. Results will be utilized to measure the feasibility of a major program roll-out in the United States and Canada this fall.
Westin Hotels & Resorts consists of over 75 luxury hotels and resorts in 15 countries around the world.
