WESTERN WASTE SELLS INTEREST IN BEST PAK

TORRANCE, Calif., March 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Western Waste Industries (NYSE: WW) announced today the sale of its minority 45 percent interest in Best Pak Disposal Inc. to Dallas-based USA Waste Services Inc. (NASDAQ: USAS). Western Waste received $7 million in cash and 75,000 shares of USA Waste common stock in the transaction. USA Waste now owns 100 percent of Best Pak's shares.
Western Waste purchased its interest in May 1990. In its most recent fiscal year, Best Pak had revenue of approximately $17 million in the southeast Texas markets of Houston and Beaumont.
"After considering the possibility of buying the remaining Best Pak shares, we decided to sell our interest," said Kosti Shirvanian, Western Waste's president and chief executive officer.
Added Shirvanian: "We will remain a strong competitor in the Texas market with an established collection operation, numerous municipal contracts and three solid and special waste landfills in Conroe and New Boston."
Western Waste Industries is a leading integrated solid waste management company, providing collection, recycling, green waste and disposal services for commercial, industrial and residential customers. The company has locations in California, Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Louisiana and Colorado.
