WESTERN WASTE PROGRAM RECYCLES 416 TONS OF CHRISTMAS TREES
LOS ANGELES, March 4 /PRNewswire/ -- An estimated 416 tons of green waste generated from 57,000 Christmas trees were diverted from overcrowded landfills into compost and recycled products through Western Waste's (NYSE: WW) successful Christmas tree recycling program. The company offered its tree recycling to 14 Southern Californian cities after the holidays.
The cities included Carson, Chino, Chino Hills, Corona, Costa Mesa, Diamond Bar, Gardena, Hacienda Heights, Huntington Park, Inglewood, Manhattan Beach, Norco, Redondo Beach and Upland.
Kosti Shirvanian, Western Waste's president and chief executive officer, said the annual Christmas tree recycling is one of the many "green waste" programs initiated by the company.
"We are proud that our efforts, which expanded nearly 200 percent over the prior year, not only aid the environment but help cities meet the state's stringent requirements for waste reduction," he stated. "We anticipate continued expansion of such programs in the years ahead."
Western Waste Industries is a leading integrated solid waste management company, providing collection, recycling, composting and disposal services for commercial, industrial and residential customers. The company has locations in California, Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Louisiana and Colorado.
