WESTERN WASTE OPENS ITS FIRST LOUISIANA LANDFILL
LOS ANGELES, April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Western Waste Industries

(NYSE: WW) today announced that it has commenced operations of its first landfill in Louisiana, a 320-acre site near New Orleans. The company is managing this landfill, which is expected to generate between $25 and $30 million and has a permitted capacity estimated at 1.8 million tons.
Western Waste developed a unique closure plan for this third-party- owned landfill that was approved by the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. Under the plan, waste will be placed to remediate and close this facility over the life of the site.
"This site gives us the opportunity to apply innovative techniques to compensate for the area's lack of available soil for cover," stated Kosti Shirvanian, Western Waste's president and chief executive officer. "We intend to use the waste itself for contour and will then cap the landfill with a synthetic cover."
Western Waste operates seven landfills in Arkansas, California, Florida, Louisiana and Texas and has eight new disposal projects in California, Colorado, Louisiana and Texas.
Western Waste Industries is a leading integrated solid waste management company, providing collection, recycling, composting and disposal services for commercial, industrial and residential customers. The company has locations in California, Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Louisiana and Colorado.
