WESTERN WASTE ISSUES STATEMENT

 LOS ANGELES, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Western Waste Industries (NYSE: WW) today reported, in response to market activity in its stock, that it is engaged in very preliminary discussions with other companies regarding a possible merger or other business combination of Western Waste.
 The company stated that no agreements have been reached nor can any assurance be given that any agreements will be reached with any third party. The other parties to the discussions were not disclosed.
 "These are very preliminary discussions at this time and there is no certainty that any transaction will occur," said Kosti Shirvanian, president and chief executive officer of Western Waste. "We will have no further comment unless appropriate."
 Western Waste Industries is an integrated solid waste management company providing collection, recycling, compositing and disposal services for commercial, industrial and residential customers. The company has locations in California, Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Louisiana and Colorado.
 The company reported revenues of $219.4 million for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1992. Results for fiscal 1993 are expected to be announced next month.
