WESTERN WASTE EXPANDS ITS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA
 CHRISTMAS TREE RECYCLING PROGRAM
LOS ANGELES, Dec. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Building on the success of prior years' programs, Western Waste Industries (NYSE: WW) will provide a Christmas tree recycling program to 14 Southern Californian cities, diverting approximately 400 tons of trees from overcrowded landfills into compost and recycled products.
From Dec. 30 through mid-January, the company will offer a collection and recycling program to residents and businesses in the cities of Carson, Chino, Chino Hills, Corona, Costa Mesa, Diamond Bar, Gardena, Hacienda Heights, Huntington Park, Inglewood, Manhattan Beach, Norco, Redondo Beach, and Upland, Calif. Additionally, Christmas trees will also be accepted at Western Waste's transfer station located at 321 W. Francisco Street in Carson.
Western Waste will provide curbside recycling under most city programs and will collect an estimated 55,000 trees. Unflocked trees without tinsel or ornaments will be collected and taken to Western Waste facilities for grinding into small particles for recycling.
Kosti Shirvanian, Western Waste's chairman, president and chief executive officer, said the expansion of Christmas tree recycling caps a year of introducing new 'green waste' programs. "These programs benefit the environment and help our cities meet the stringent waste reduction mandates of the state," he stated.
Western Waste Industries is a leading integrated solid waste management company, providing collection, recycling, composting and disposal services for commercial, industrial and residential customers. The company has locations in California, Texas, Florida, Arkansas, Louisiana and Colorado.
