 ANNOUNCE TELEPHONE BOOK RECYCLING RESULTS
 LOS ANGELES, Nov. 20 /PRNewwire/ -- Western Waste Industries (NYSE: WW) and GTE California announced that their joint effort to recycle telephone directories resulted in saving nearly 900 trees. One of the first such efforts in Southern California, the program took place during the month of October.
 The program, which collected telephone books from a number of Southern California cities, diverted 52 tons from overcrowded landfills into useful products such as paper and cardboard. Directories were collected at GTE and Western Waste locations and taken by Western Waste to its Redondo Beach, Calif. recycling center for processing.
 Residents and businesses in the cities of Manhattan Beach, Redondo Beach, Hermosa Beach, Lawndale, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Palos Verdes Estates and Torrance, Calif. participated in this program.
 "We achieved the goal of this project and helped develop the telephone book recycling market," stated Kosti Shirvanian, Western Waste's president and chief executive officer.
 GTE California provides telecommunication services to three million customers in 330 communities primarily in Southern California.
