WESTERN WASTE AND BFI REMAIN COMMITTED TO MERGER TRANSACTION

 LOS ANGELES, Sept. 30, /PRNewswire/ -- Western Waste Industries (NYSE: WW) today announced that it knows of no reason for its recent stock activity. Following discussion with Browning-Ferris Industries (NYSE: BFI), a spokesperson for Western confirms that both parties remain committed to the proposed merger. The spokesperson said that work on the proposed merger with BFI is continuing and that there has been no change in the terms of the original letter of intent. Both companies further acknowledge that they are continuing their due diligence, are working on the definitive agreement and are as of this date, filing their respective notices under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Antitrust Improvements Act of 1976.
 Western further stated that it expects to release its 10K within the 15-day extension period which continues through Oct. 13, 1993, and will release its earnings on or before that date.
