WESTERN STAR TO PURCHASE INFORMEDICS INC. BUSINESS

 LAKE OSWEGO, Ore., Sept. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Western Star Inc. (NASDAQ: WTAR), a designer and marketer of specialty medical laboratory automation and data management software has today announced the signing of an agreement to purchase the business of Informedics Inc. The transaction is scheduled to close within a few days; terms were not disclosed.
 Informedics Inc., of Portland develops and sells medical practice management software that allows doctors' offices to schedule patients, do in-house patient and insurance billing, electronic billing, accounting and management reporting more efficiently. Informedics employs 10 people and expects to have profitable sales of approximately $1,000,000 in 1993. Western Star expects to hire all Informedics employees after the transaction closes.

Our experience interfacing systems with hospitals and laboratories will enable us to provide physicians with the information and connectivity (to outside organizations like hospitals, laboratories and other specialties) they need to meet the challenges this environment is creating."
 Founded in 1986, Informedics Inc. supports over 150 clinics in the Pacific Northwest, in specialties such as family practice, pediatrics, internal medicine, OB/GYN, ophthalmology, dermatology, cardiology, ENT, reconstructive surgery, maxillofacial surgery and general surgery. Its clients range in size from sole practitioners to large multi-physician and multi-location clinics.
 Western Star Inc. designs, sells and services proprietary blood bank, pathology and quality control data management systems for IBM and IBM-compatible personal computers linked in local and wide area networks. Western Star's software lines completely automate the data management of a pathology laboratory or blood bank. The addition of the Informedics practice management software will help to further solidify Western Star as a leader in health care information systems.
