WESTERN NEW YORK'S FIRST NATIONAL BANK GIVES 'FREE SAMPLES' TO LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS

ROCHESTER, N.Y., June 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Western New York's premier community-focused commercial bank, First National Bank of Rochester, (NASDAQ: FNBR) gave out "free samples" of money today when the Rochester-based Amateur Sports Program, Inc. became the first recipient of a "Banking on Rochester" grant.
 R. Carlos Carballada, president and chief executive officer of First National Bank of Rochester, presented a check for $5,000 from the Rochester You. First. Business Action Fund established by the bank to Donald Aselin, owner and operator of the Amateur Sports Program, Inc., at a ceremony held today at the Amateur Sports Park located on Ballantyne Road in Chili, N.Y.
The company was selected by an independent committee of local economic development specialists. Aselin says he will use the money to offset repair and replacement costs incurred as a result of severe flood damage to the equipment needed to operate the facility suffered in March and April of this year.
He remarked, "While this grant will be used to offset the cost of repairs, I feel it is equally important that the park has received this recognition because I know that it fills a need in the community."
The Amateur Sports park, which includes seven regulation softball fields, two football/soccer fields, two sand volleyball courts and parking for more than 400 vehicles, has hosted hundreds of regional amateur sports events that have produced significant economic benefits for the community. As recreational administrators for such national sanctioning organizations as the Amateur Softball Association of America, the company has become a driving force in bringing more than 400 out-of-town teams to Rochester for tournament competition at the state, regional and national levels. Last year, the company generated more than $2,500,000 in travel and tourism dollars for the local economy.
During the presentation, Carballada reinforced the message that he conveyed when First National kicked off this initiative. "We created the Rochester You. First. Business Action Fund as a means for helping those businesses in our community that need it most. Here is a perfect example of a dynamic community-based business trying to overcome hurdles on its path to continued success. We are pleased that this money will assist Don and others like him in meeting the challenges they face today and in the future."
The event was also attended by Monroe County Executive Robert King, and Judy Seil, of the Monroe County Department of Planning and Development. Both were instrumental in providing emergency financial assistance to Aselin in the repair and renovation of his Amateur Sports Park.
